Game 1/2: Aurellis (Wednesday)

GM: Tim H
Cast: 3-6
System: ADRPG+

Description:

Aurellis is a continuing campaign, first started at ACUK around 2001, and played at many other cons since, online on email, and now on Discord too. It’s set in a multiverse that has an Amber, a Chaos, and a whole bunch of other places too.

Most characters start out on a version of Earth, currently in late 2011. Except it’s not completely the same. For instance, President Josiah (Jed) Bartlet is just coming to the end of his second term as US president. Little changes.

Most people in the real world don’t know that there is weird stuff. Alternate realities. Magic. Super-Science!. Player characters get caught up in the weird. You guys do what it takes to let the rest of the population sleep safely at night, unenlightened, and happy.

Characters:

Returning players (no matter where played Aurellis before) are always welcome.

New players – character construction starts out with a quiz. That lets me assign skills, Powers and attribute points. After that, it’s what you do. Role play, not Rule play. You don’t know how many points you have in real life, right?

Aurellis has it’s own Discord server, and the game will be run on there, so that the text chats remain part of the Aurellis archive.

Players:

  1. Tim H (GM)
  2. Jeremy F
  3. Kenneth M
  4. Linda C
  5. Stephanie I
  6. Todd T

Thursday – Pre-Pre-Con Game

(10am – 5pm GMT)

Game 2/1: The Guns of Kashfa

GM: Matthew B
Cast: 3-5
System: ADRPG – Vialle 2.0

Description:

The island of Karn off the coast of Kashfa gives them protection from invading forces, invading forces who Amber would quite like to destroy it, or at least bring it down a peg. The king has offered a pardon or a favour to those who are willing to take the arcanocannons of the port down, it is important that no major power is held responsible for this, Amber cannot take the blame.

Characters:

100 pts, no shadow knights weirdness, max bad/good stuff 10pts. Basic Pattern is free. All characters are prisoners of amber or wishing to prove themselves to the court. If you have a returning character (no required at all) please submit a copy.

Players:

  1. Matthew B (GM)
  2. Amber B
  3. Esther vR
  4. Keith M
  5. Mel M
  6. Tym N

Game 2/3: The Moving Finger [Invisible Library]

GM: Anna J
Cast: 4 or 6
System: Diceless

Description:

After months of training at the Invisible Library the time has finally come, your field assessment to go from trainee to junior librarian. As always those undergoing assessment will be paired with a librarian to observe their performance and attempt to prevent serious damage to the reputation of the library, the world in question and the apprentice (in that order of descending priority). You know very little about the assessment beyond the briefing you were given – to report to the entry point to world Beta-022 – and some brief details about the world itself – a standard Victorian 19th century world with very little remarkable about it – quite well balanced between order and chaos. You know there will be 2 or 3 teams going to the same world, each with their own mission and you are under instructions not to discuss yours with the other trainees. You’re confident, you’re ready for this – after all, how hard can it be to retrieve one little book?

Characters:

Players can be trainees or the librarians supervising their assessment. Both roles will have their challenges. In order to play a credible librarian you need to have at least read the Invisible Library and understand the Language. No points, no system (not even Dewey Decimal). Briefing notes will be provided. Please submit a character background outlining the world you come from and any particular skills or experience you think relevant.

Note:

This is a re-run from ACNI 2020 for those who missed it.

Players:

  1. Anna J (GM)
  2. George K
  3. Guy A
  4. Kevin D
  5. Scott S
  6. Simon PM
  7. Trish H

Thursday – Evening Game

(7pm – Late GMT)

Game 3/1: Deadpool: Into the Deadpool-Verse

GM: Chris L
Cast: 3-6
System: Movie/comic book parody; mostly system-less with a few ranked attributes for flavour.

Description:

Avast ye Deadpools! Some cheese-slurping cockwomble has accidentally triggered a dimensional portal, tossing Deadpools from across the multiverse together like tiny tomatoes into a fruit salad. Can this pool of Pools work together to find a way home before they reach their expiry date? You will decide, as you take on the role of a unique Deadpool created from your own inspiration and fallen Far From Home. MAXIMUM EFFORT!

Yes, this is very much a parody of “Into the Spider-Verse” as a Deadpool movie.

Characters:

Character creation is easy. Message me your concept for an alternate-universe Deadpool (prior versions have included LanternPool, Sailor Deadpool, Deadpool Spirit of Vengeance, Bat-Pool, DopinderPool and Lady Katana Deadpool). Then I’ll give you six character attributes to rank from 1 (worst) to 6 (best). We should be able to manage this mischief by PM or a brief chat on the forum.

I prefer Zoom for video but I don’t have a paid account. If someone has an account to use and everyone agrees, we’ll use Zoom for A/V and Discord for text. Otherwise we’ll just default everything to Discord.

Also, Yes, this is a very much an R-Rated parody (definitely not for kids, kiddos).

The Outtro

Players:

  1. Chris L (GM)
  2. Dave C
  3. Esther vR
  4. Linda C
  5. Sean S
  6. Tym N

Game 3/2: That escalated quickly.

GM: Amber B
Cast: 2-4
System: Woven Realities, Genre apocalyptic

Description:

Something horrible just happened to the world, it had been on the news for days now and the scientists are baffled that this was even possible. The survival chances were slim. But still you prepared, what if you survive you had to increase your chances.

Then the horrible event happened, death, debris and mayhem. Barely anything was left standing after the impact but you survived.
What is going to be next.

Characters:

You play a character in current times, we won’t work with a specific point system. I will send you a little list with questions to determine certain things for your character. I need a profession, hobby or daily occupation and a bit of background about your character please no more then one A4. Also how did you prepare for the upcoming apocalyptic event.

In party killing is not appreciated.

Players:

  1. Amber B (GM)
  2. Alan W
  3. Becca M
  4. Herman D
  5. Matthew B

Game 3/3: Inconvenient Truths

GM: Simon PM
Cast: 4-6
System: ADRPG

Description:

Knowledge is power, and if you want your secrets to stay that way you’d better be prepared to take drastic action to keep them. Somebody else certainly was. You’re not sure whether it was your secret or theirs that started this, but you obviously came off worse. The last few weeks are a blur, and not in a good way. You don’t know how you got here, but the furniture is screwed in place, there are suspicious stains on the floor, and the disinfectant smell isn’t quite strong enough to block out the less pleasant odours. On the plus side, you’re a Prince of Amber, dammit, and revenge will be yours.

Characters:

100 points. Pre-Patternfall. You don’t have to be from Amber, but obviously ran into someone who was, whether you knew it or not.

This game was previously run at ACUK 2010.

Players:

  1. Simone PM (GM)
  2. Edith B
  3. Guy A
  4. Natalie A
  5. Rain D
  6. Shadow A
  7. Todd T

Game 3/4: Search for Cymnea

GM: Keith M
Cast: 4-6
System: ADRPG

Description:

Many years ago Corwin drew his Pattern during Patternfall. The resulting reality wave crashed into an area of ‘space’ that turned out not to be empty. There was a barrier that only Benedict and Merlin were able to enter. They found descendants of Cymnea hidden there and facilitated the Heroes fixing their Primal Pattern. Some years later after Amber itself was more politically stable King Random asked for a Delegation from Cymnean Space to visit informally and start some kind of relationship. The truth was much deeper. The Pattern of Amber wanted to sort out its relationship with the Cymnean Pattern. Negotiations of a sort were done. Now the fallout of those decisions are being felt in Shadow and the Cymnean’s are making their own decisions. Their mission now is to search for their ancestor Cymnea. There will be clues to be found in Shadow, Reality and perhaps even in the memories of those that have forgotten.

A sort of sequel to 2019’s Holding out for a Hero (ACNI or ANNW) and 2020’s Delegation from the Land of Cymnea (ACNI or ACNW). Retuning players from either game welcome and new players also welcome.

Characters:

Returning players from Holding and Delegation have 20 points or a minor Ability. They can also tweak an existing Ability. New players please get in touch for character creation. Hopefully everyone will have a good time. That is the goal.

Players:

  1. Keith M (GM)
  2. Alastair J
  3. Anna J
  4. Marieke K
  5. Mel M
  6. Scott S
  7. Vivek D

Game 3/5: The Sable Game

GM: Trish H
Cast: 3-6
System: Adventure / Heroic – Amber with a Twist

Description:

The PCs are talented mortals who are the trusted agents of the King of Sable, chosen to help in the smooth running of the Kingdom, and to thwart the plans of Sable’s age-old enemy, the Reich, as well as those of newer enemies who have come on the scene in recent years, such as the Brotherhood of the Martyr and the Machine, and any other threats to the Kingdom which might arise. Preference will be given to returning characters from any iteration of the Sable Game.

Setting:

The game is based in a Pattern-based world, but the setting and NPCs are specific to the Sable Game. Full details are available on the game website at: http://www.sable.org.uk/. With Tim’s help, Sable set up on the Aurellis-Sable Discord server. Invites will be sent to those players who are in the game (or are just interested!)

Character generation is based on 85 points starting at Chaos stats, and only limited powers are available to players. Players must have email access, as I’m not willing to do character creation at the con.

Players:

  1. Trish H (GM)
  2. Jason P
  3. Jeremy F
  4. Kenneth M
  5. Paul B
  6. Stephanie I
  7. Tim H

Friday – Morning Game

(10am – 5pm GMT)

Game 4/1: The Fall of The House of Amber: Wasteland

GM: Matthew B
Cast: 4-5
System: ADRPG

Description:

You were trapped. While you were trapped the worlds fell. Amber fell. Chaos was breached and the universe died. While you were trapped everything was lost. You may have been trapped for hundreds or thousands of years.  The trap faded over time and you were freed, from one moment of time to another. From a powerful and joyous past to a broken future. A future with thousands of worlds destroyed and shattered, tied together through a curdled shadow of fragments of worlds. A world fading and dying where too strong a will can shatter what remains. What powers you have left are mere echoes, to be used cautiously, drawing from the world around them and your own soul and strength. You are not the only person out of time. There are others. Some are creatures that have survived the breaking of their powers and exist as maddened versions of themselves and some, like you, were trapped. There is a plan: to find fragments of old powers, steal them, bring them together and make a sanctuary shadow – a lifeboat to survive the end of the world.

As the sanctuary drifted through the void, it came to an open space, a sargasso sea of blank reality without energy to draw upon. You, amongst others are being sent to find an anchor point to use to pull it to safety.

Characters:

All characters are based on 200 points, ADRPG rules both main rules and Shadow Knight. Any items or creatures over 6 points will have been sacrificed by you already to make the Raft. Shadows can be bought but I will rewrite them to match the current world, and you have not yet managed to get back to them. (This game may be running twice, if you want to be in both sessions you will need two separate characters). No bonuses for contributions. Returning characters will be allowed and will get bonus points. Please include how you were trapped in time and when you are from.

Players:

  1. Matthew B (GM)
  2. Anna J
  3. Edith B
  4. George K
  5. Kevin D
  6. Vivek D

Game 4/2: The Barimen Job

GM: Jason P
Cast: 5-6
System: ADRPG

Description:

The plan in principle was simple.

To some, it would seem little more than a raid on one of the most secure buildings in the centre of the city, but to Oberon it was a statement. A statement to those who opposed him, as it would show everyone who was truly in control of the city.

To demonstrate the ability to strike wherever and whenever he wanted, it would send a message to the so-called civil authorities and those upstarts to the South and keep them in their place. He knew that among his family, he had available the talents, skills and creativity necessary to pull this off, despite whatever measures the opposition could muster.

Oberon strolled back in off the balcony back into his study, he called to one of his bodyguards that were always outside, awaiting his beck and call.

“Sir?”, the guard inquired sticking his head round the door.

“Get the word out, I’m calling a family meeting for tonight”, Oberon barked.

As the guard left to fulfil his master’s wishes, Oberon picked up a cigar from his desk and after lighting it, he went back to the balcony to inspect his domain.

The game is going to be a crime heist carried out by the Elders and set in the modern day (more or less) and therefore characters will be adapted accordingly.”

Characters:

Characters will be Elders as picked by the players before the Con,  although pregenerated by me.  I will contact players with more details once games have been allocated.

Players:

  1. Jason P (GM)
  2. Becca M
  3. Dave C
  4. Esther vR
  5. Julian D
  6. Natalie A
  7. Trish H

Game 4/3: Pax Britannica

GM: Alastair J
Cast: 4-6
System:

Description:

You must answer the devil in his own language.
Indian proverb

Lord M had sent the team heading off to The Orient to find what is hopefully the last missing piece of whatever it is they’re collecting. They’ve had to make a little unscheduled detour and have ended up stopping over in India for what should hopefully be a short while. But that should be fine, shouldn’t it? Or will they need a little backup?  But not to worry; Lord M’s team has been tasked to complete every operation with “a certain degree of secrecy and tact”. So there shouldn’t be anything to worry about, right?

Huzzah!

It is the year 1872 and Britain is riding high with its technology and industry delivering advances in military prowess as well as for the economy. The power of steam, advances in clockwork and creation of difference engines have delivered not just economic changes but also social and environmental ones too, even resulting in flight.  But there is no room for complacency though as other countries and empires seek opportunities to advance their various causes usually at the cost of others.

For various reasons which are unique to each character, you are working for the Government, in particular Viscount Lord Melbourne (nephew of the Queen’s first PM).  You have been chosen because of your exceptional if not unique abilities and prowess which Lord M, as he is affectionately referred to, puts to use when awkward complications arise.

Characters:

Although this is a continuation game, new players are very welcome.  Character creation details will be circulated in due course.

Players:

  1. Alastair J (GM)
  2. Claire McK
  3. Keith M
  4. Kenneth M
  5. Scott S
  6. Sean S
  7. Tym N

Game 4/4: The Better Part of Valour

GM: Herman D
Cast: 3-5 (maybe 6)
System: ADRPG+

Description:

“Well, it’s a long walk. But if you go all the way down to the docks, at the back of the cove, it’s a little to the west…. But maybe you shouldn’t. It’s kind of late, and that isn’t the best neighbourhood after dark.”
“… Bloody Bill’s.”

A reader of omens and caster of auguries, with grim news. The arrival of unexpected and improbable allies, in darkness. And who is that man, trying to pass himself off as a scoundrel, but clearly not from this part of town?

You and your group of fellow scoundrels are among the newest upstart crews in the city of Amber. You have no rep to speak of, hardly two silvers to rub together, and most of all, nothing to lose. If you can navigate the scheming nobles, bloodthirsty gangs, and whatever else rears its ugly head, then you might just come out on top.

Setting: “Common folk” in the city of Amber, post second series.

Game 5/4: Alice is Missing

GM: Marieke K
Cast: 4
System: Alice is Missing (non-Amber)

Description:

ALICE IS MISSING

An immersive RPG played entirely via (text message) Discord.
Alice is Missing is a silent role-playing game about the disappearance of Alice Briarwood, a high school junior in the small town of Silent Falls.

The game is played live and without verbal communication. Players inhabit their character for the entirety of the 90-minute play session, and instead of speaking, send text messages back and forth to the other characters in a group chat, as well as individually, as though they aren’t in the same place together.

Haunting beautiful, deeply personal, and highly innovative, Alice is Missing puts a strong focus on the emotional engagement between players, immersing them in a tense, dramatic mystery that unfolds organically through the text messages they send to one another.

Alice Is Missing runs over a single session of 3-4 hours, with 3-5 players. In the first two hours, players create their characters, their relationships to Alice, and their ties with each other. The next 90 minutes are spent uncovering secrets and unearthing clues in an attempt to discover where Alice is, and who is behind her disappearance.

Though text messages seem to be the most common mode of communication in our modern era, they are rarely utilized as a storytelling medium. The integration of texting (in this instance via Discord) into the gameplay unlocks a brand new way to play RPGs that is unlike anything you’ve likely experienced before. It’s personal, immersive, and perfect for remote play.

Fair warning; This game has nothing to do with Amber. Instead, you’ll be playing the friends of Alice Briarwood, a missing 16 year old, who try to find out what happened to her. After creating the characters, within certain templates, the game itself is played in silence, as if you’re teenagers communicating via text message. Once the game is over, we can talk to each other again and have a little debrief.

For more information, see https://www.huntersentertainment.com/alice-is-missing and https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/huntersbooks/alice-is-missing-a-silent-role-playing-game?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=alice%20is%20missing .

Game 5/5: There’s Someone in My Head But It’s not Me

GM: Stephanie I
Cast: 4-6
System: ADRPG

Description:

It has been hundreds of years since you walked the Amber Pattern. It was exciting at first being called on by the elders to undertake the numerous missions that young Amberites undertake once coming into their powers; but it wasn’t long before the excitement turned to tedium as you sorted out the latest mess left over from the boneheaded moves, power drunk fantasies, petty vengeances, or “innovations” of your elders, siblings, and cousins. You did what anyone with wit and sense did…buried your trump deck in a warded box and struck out for the Shadow of your Desires to live in comparative peace in an obscure Shadow where Trump didn’t reach.

You have been living a life of quiet adoration ever since! You want for nothing, your every need is tended to by your people, the beings of your Shadow hold you in reverence…even love.

Until lately…

The inhabitants of your Shadow have been progressively acting strangely in your presence, some of your retainers have started avoiding you, something just isn’t quite right. Then you started noticing that things were missing, rearranged, broken, misplaced…and then there were the gaps…

Now, you are having ‘dreams’ of experiences that seemingly have never taken place and someone appears to be hijacking your life. The problem is, you think it is you.

Characters:

All characters are based on 250 points, ADRPG rules both main rules and Shadow Knight. No items or artefacts.

Players:

  1. Stephanie I (GM)
  2. Amber B
  3. Bob M
  4. Edith B
  5. Scott S
  6. Simone C

Game 5/6: St. Mary’s – The Best of Times

GM: Anna J
Cast: 4-6
System: No points, no system, but lots of tea and biscuits.

Description:

The new look St Mary’s has taken up the mantle of the Time Police and done some carefully vetted recruitment to grow their ranks. There are still those mourning for family, friends and former colleagues lost in the old timeline.
There are also some experiencing a degree of disquiet at aspects of the new world you find yourselves in. Talking to some of the new recruits you can’t shake the sense that something is off – you can’t pin it down but you have a growing unease that ‘All that glisters is not gold’. And then you receive the transmission – the signal isn’t very clear and it’s coming from far back in the past but there’s no question, it’s coming from lost pod number seven and it’s an SOS…

Characters:

Returning and new characters are welcome. For returning characters, I need at least one person you lost in the old timeline and why they were important to you. For new characters I need to know if you were a) one of the few surviving time police, b) from the old St Mary’s and on a mission pre-mid 15th century when the timeline changed or c) a recruit from the new timeline. Anyone wishing to play (c) should get in touch with me for details / char gen support.

GM: Andy R
Cast: 3-5
System: Psi*Run with a twist…

Whoever’s after you, you know one thing: they will stop at nothing to capture you and you’ll stop at nothing to stay free. The holes in your memory vie for attention with your startling abilities.”

Characters:

“This is an Amber/Psi Run crossover game. We’ll be using the Psi Run rules (not the ADRPG) which means that there will be dice involved, but character creation will be tailored to the Amber multiverse.

Creating a character is simple and requires no experience of Psi Run, but more details will be provide after the game allocations are complete.”

Game 6/2: A Chaos Education

GM: Trish H
Cast: 3-5
System: ADRPG+

Description:

Merlin to Corwin: “I was taught the usual things a gentleman should know – magic, weapons, poisons, riding, dancing.”

Since time in memorium, House Helgram has run its own school to train the more gifted members of the somewhat extensive House (or at least, the ones whose parents don’t send them off into Shadow) in the various skills they’ll need to survive as active members of the Courts of Chaos.

And they must be doing something right, because Helgrams are now in key positions both within the House, the wider Court of King Swayville, and their influence is now extending south to the Land of the Unicorn, where Bleys and Fiona, children of Clarissa Helgram, are guiding Amber’s King Random.

Pupils join the Helgram Academy when they reach their eleventh year, and depending on their abilities, graduate any time from eighteen to thirty, depending on how far they wish to take their studies. By the time they reach their mid-twenties they are usually becoming more comfortable with their abilities, and beginning to learn their responsibilities as full members of the House. But with plots afoot within the House, graduation may be coming early for this class.

This game has previously been run at ACNW, and also ACUK (in about 2014).

Characters:

You will be playing the older students, who have finished their basic studies, and moved on to explore their particular talents: magic, conjuration, shapeshifting, other academic pursuits, or perhaps something more unusual: an innate skill or ability that they’ve developed all their own. They are also learning about the House as a whole, occasionally travelling with the older members, and beginning to be aware of the inner House politics.

Characters should be between 25 and 30 years of age, and built on 50pt with limited shapeshift; or 60pt without. No Pattern, Logrus, Constructs or High Compelling. Otherwise all powers as per ADRPG. And if you want to do something different – a sensitivity or innate ability, or perhaps a partial power, then talk to the GM.

I do not intend to do any character generation on the day, so all players should contact the GM in advance.

Players:

  1. Trish H (GM)
  2. Andy R
  3. Ben McC
  4. Marieke K
  5. Tim H

Game 6/3: Before the Dawn

GM: Shadow A
Cast: 4-6
System: ADRPG

Description:

Before the Dawn will follow the adventures of several intrepid scions of Chaos who have left the Courts together each for their own reasons.

This game was originally run at ACNI 2020; if there are returning players it will continue from where they left off; if not, we will start afresh.

Characters:

All characters will be pre-generated. Initial characters will be provided shortly before the start of the con. Don’t get attached to them – this is explicitly a PvP game and I expect and trust that there will be multiple character deaths. A player whose character dies will have a choice of ways to continue to play – for example as a new character that is about to become significant to the story.

Players:

  1. Shadow A (GM)
  2. George K
  3. Kevin D
  4. Natalie A
  5. Paul B

Game 6/4: Blandings Like It Hot

GM: Mel M
Cast: 4-6
System: Amber/Blandings crossover – special rules (which will be provided). Please note: This game will be played in a private library in Second Life.

Description:

Last year, in Ireland, a gathering of Blandings cousins were instrumental in recovering a horde of silver that had been stolen from Blandings six month previously (hurrah!). Unfortunately, several pieces were still missing – including a cow creamer belonging to Tom Travers, who was Most Upset. And if Tom Travers is upset, the all of Brinkley Court is upset, including Moire. And young Martin has been caught studying sailing times to the United States where the person (Cyrus D. Wainwright III) believed to be fencing the goods was headed …

It’s clearly time for a group of cousins to head to the rescue!

Characters:

100 point characters. The characters are children of the Blandings version of Amberites (except that Fiona and Flora are Aunts). Mirelle and Random Threepwood are too young to have adult children, so also out. Players will also have a special free skill for this game.

Players:

  1. Mel M (GM)
  2. Alastair J
  3. Becca M
  4. Claire McK
  5. Herman D
  6. Sean S
  7. Stephanie I

You all got an invitation stating the date, time and location and a location trump. You are supposed to bring a small gift and a bottle of your best booze to get ready for a night out in the loudest city in the multiverse!

Whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, right?

Characters:

Create a character using 75 pts. Can be an Amberite, Chaosite or whatever you feel like.

Game 6/6: The Morning After The Night Before

GM: Scott S
Cast: 3-5
System: ADRPG

Description:

There was a party at the castle. Were you invited or did you sneak in ? There was great food, great wine, gorgeous people and some truly amazing brandy….

The rest of the night is a little vague, flashes of debauchery intermingled with psychedelic images from around the castle (Did someone really suggest a conga line?)

The next morning…
Alarm bells ring briefly before there is an almighty bellow telling everyone to stop that (&*^%*(ing bell ringing.
You awake in the Kings chambers with a hangover….

Characters:

  • Characters who have a reason to be at a party at Amber Castle
  • Low life or Noble, Soldier or Servant.
  • Not of the royal blood
  • No Logrus
  • No Pattern
  • No Full Trump (15 points for one shot sketches but talk to me before you take it)
  • Items – nothing too overpowered – I will judge each one when I see it

Points: 20

  • Stats start at 0.
  • You can sell stats down (to any value up to -25).

Note: I don’t MIND sorcery but it DOES NOT WORK IN AMBER. So if you HAVE sorcery you will need to be from SOMEWHERE ELSE and travelled to Amber somehow – I expect an explanation that makes sense. Same goes for conjuration.

Players:

  1. Scott S (GM)
  2. Anna J
  3. Edith B
  4. Thom dJ
  5. Todd T
  6. Vivek D

Saturday – Evening Game

(7pm – Late GMT)

Game 7/1: Timeo Danaos

GM: Dave C
Cast: 3-5
System: LoGaS

Description:

Cold nights bring the strangest of things to the homes of Londoners, some are perhaps more than they may first appear.

London has changed in the time of Covid isolation forced on it. Some blame cabin fever, others mass hysteria, a few though, they blame the Rivers and those that run with them.

Cause and correlation now there’s a thing and a thing to look into. Gifts are being left at doorsteps and sometimes inside houses – leaving the recipients behaving strangely afterwards and in one instance a child has gone missing their mother is frantic their sister silent. Someone needs to investigate this and that means you.

Characters:

10pt characters no more than 4pts on any artefact. All characters have to be linked to the Folly or something similar. Brief character description would be nice. All powers available at reduced costs (minimum 10pt spend) talk to me before game for details.

Adult themes / noir.

Players:

  1. Dave C (GM)
  2. Alan W
  3. Edith B
  4. Herman D
  5. Laura B
  6. Trish H

Game 7/2: Aurellis (Saturday)

GM: Tim H

Aurellis has it’s own Discord server, and the game will be run on there, so that the text chats remain part of the Aurellis archive

Players:

  1. Tim H (GM)
  2. Jason P
  3. Kenneth M
  4. Marieke K
  5. Paul B
  6. Rain D
  7. Scott S

Game 7/3: Warlord’s Quadrant: Reeve ‘em and Reap

GM: Stephanie I
Cast: 4-6
System: Modified Space Opera

Description:

It has been 50SY since the survivors of the ESS Apogee, an exploration and mapping survey vessel on a scientific mission to a border volume, were recovered by a small group of privately chartered mission specialists (mercenaries) from the Warlord’s Quadrant. The repatriation of the Apogee crew triggered an accelerated technological growth throughout the Federation of Planets and large cultural upheavals as ordinary society became exposed to the peculiar range of personal talents displayed by the returnees.

The returnees and affected members of the rescue mission ended up being interdicted and terminated by the Federation as a result of their subversive behaviour, negative impact on social order, and crimes against bio-life and sentience. The Warlord’s Quadrant, rumoured to be based on the forced utilization of emerged organic biotech talents to provide their technical infrastructure, was declared to be a Red Zone via a treaty negotiated by the original rescue crew. Wild rumours abound about the wealth of the Warlord culture, its savagery, and the strange alterations/adaptations experienced by those who visit the quadrant. There is also increasing evidence that the official statements regarding the termination/internment of the original rescue mission and returnees may be false. A thriving black market in ‘Warlord Tech’ exists, although much of this is generally bogus there are rumours of truly miraculous innovations that can be found for the right price.

Players characters will either be returning characters, or will create a character who would either have been a psionic returnee from the Warlord’s Quadrant or a Psionic member of the Federation who had been secretly pressed into service by the Federation to operate technologies that have been brought back from the Warlord civilization. Players should be able to describe how their psionic gift operates and may offer a suggestion for a technical innovation they believe it provides….or the GM will assign the technology that is supported by their gift.

(Note: This will be a return to a setting run over multiple years at ACNW. Returning players are welcome. Also, players for this game should be prepared to accept an intermission in play in the event the GM is called out for emergency services duty.)

Characters:

Players must contact the GM for character generation prior to the convention. Character gen guidelines follow, but players are urged to focus on their character concept rather than the mechanics. The GM will work with you to sort out the details once you have a firm idea in mind. Non-human characters should provide descriptions of accommodations they use to survive and communicate during interactions with humanoid crews/players.

Character generation is roughly based on the original Space Opera Game by FGU. The system is out of print and was originally designed as a dice driven, rules heavy play system. If you have a copy of these rules, you are welcome to use them to supplement your character creation process; however, it is not necessary and many players will probably have no access to the original system. I have a quick and dirty short version you can use below. I am also open to player wheedling, so if there is something you really want to do, let me know and I will try to make it fit. If you do happen to have a copy of the rules, you are not restricted to only the character classes, professions, etc. outlined there.

Further information will be provided.

Players:

  1. Stephanie I (GM)
  2. Guy A
  3. Keith M
  4. Linda C
  5. Murray W
  6. Ray H
  7. Todd T

Game 7/4: The Darkest Hour

GM: Anna J
Cast: 4-6
System: None

Description:

It was a normal enough day, you did what you usually do, watched a bit of mindless but entertaining television and then fell asleep…but as soon as you wake up you know that something is very, very wrong. You feel so cold and you can’t seem to open your eyes or move. All there is is an icy blackness but then you begin to hear voices talking – several other people who also sound frightened asking what’s happening, where are we? You realise that the two things you can do are speak and hear. Maybe together you can all figure out what has happened to you and how to escape?

Characters:

You are a human from 2022. Earth is much as it is now, minus the current pandemic, plus an awareness that aliens exist and that a couple of invasion attempts have been thwarted by Earth’s defenders. You may be from anywhere in the world but at the time you were staying or living in London.

Players:

  1. Anna J (GM)
  2. Ben McC
  3. Esther vR
  4. Mel M
  5. Monique CF
  6. Shadow A
  7. Thom dJ

Game 7/5: Burning Coal

GM: Vivek D
Cast: 4-6
System: Cinematic Diceless, explained in game summary

Description:

It is the turn of the 19th century: The great imperial powers vie for dominance, fuelled by coal and steered by the industrial combines and their brass-and-steel difference engines:

But not all their conflicts are played out in the open, by displays of military might or commercial conflicts – there are other, more shadowy arenas where the Great Game is also played.

At the heart of the British Empire we find The Ministry (it has a name, officially, on paper – but never speak it. It is always just The Ministry).

Home to the freak, the monster, the superhuman, the undead, the spy, the assassin and the mad scientist* and those simply… less trammeled by ordinary moral considerations.

This means you.

* The Society of Hypercognisant Artisans and Master Engineers prefers “Enlightened Engineer” over the vulgar and somewhat pejorative “Mad Scientist”.

Characters:

Players should pick an archetype or template to build their character on – Mad Scientist*, Monster, Super-spy, Werewolf, Golem, Demon-ridden Sorceress – feel free to plunder any and all of Pulp, Sci-Fi, Fantasy for an idea (or even come up with your own).

That’s who your character is. In addition there should be

  • a reason the ministry would want to employ you
    • some extraordinary ability, power or skill-set.
  • a reason you work for the ministry:
    • They might have stayed your execution for a crime (real or framed)
    • Maybe they pay you vast sums of money.
    • Perhaps they are the only source of a drug you need.
    • Possibly you’re just the right mix of patriotic and amoral that you want to.
  • One superhumanly strong stat or trait, eg:
    • Strong / Agile / Dextrous / Strong-willed / Perceptive / etc
  • 0 or more _additional_ strengths, each balanced by a weakness, eg:
    • Weak / Aged / Clumsy / Weak-willed / Vulnerable to iron / Berserk / etc

To be clear – your first strength is free. Only additional ones must be paid for.

Players:

  1. Vivek D (GM)
  2. Alastair J
  3. Andy R
  4. Matthew B
  5. Natalie A
  6. Sean S
  7. Tom McK

Game 7/6: Garnath is Burning

GM: Chris L
Cast: 3-6
System: ADRPG

Description:

“Garnath is burning.”

So speaks Random, King of Amber, pain and sweat gleaming on his face as he casts the power of the Jewel of Judgement towards the horizon. Black smoke rises from the far valley, mingling with dark storm clouds whose downpour has done nothing to quench the inferno that consumes the forest.

“It burns. There is nothing left but stone and cinder, yet it burns. I have done all I can, brothers and sisters. It is now up to you.”

“Garnath is Burning” is set mere weeks after the end of the Corwin Chronicles. All the events happened mostly as described, but there are motivations, causes, and events unknown to Corwin that make it a much darker world. Sorrow, madness, scars of the flesh and of the soul. Ancient enemies from within and from without, and the broken gods who must stand against them.

Characters:

You are part of King Random’s surviving family: Benedict, Bleys, Caine, Corwin, Fiona, Florimel, Gerard, Julian, or Llewella. (Martin, Delwin, Sand, or Rinaldo are possible only if they’ve sworn fealty to Random.) Send me your top three picks for character assignment. Build is 250 points from the basic ADRPG rulebook, with some restrictions and customization available. Characters should be completed before the convention.

Each of your characters has a horrific secret, a personal damnation that could threaten the very Realm. Content warnings may apply, so I’ll adapt mature themes based on your comfort levels. This game works best for players who like to put their characters through hell.

Players:

  1. Chris L (GM)
  2. Amber B
  3. Bob M
  4. George K
  5. Kevin D
  6. Kris F
  7. Simone C

Game 8/1: Stairways to Anywhere

GM: Andy R
Cast: 2-5
System: LoGaS

Description:

The infinite length of the Grand Stair leads everywhere and anywhere, offering the promise of unimaginably riches and the risk of untold danger with every new Door you step through. As agents of Lucien you travel the Grand Stair seeking knowledge and investigating the unexplained.
This is a repeat of the game I ran at ACNW20, if you played in it there this isn’t the game for you.

Characters:

This is a Lords of Gossamer and Shadow game, a game based on the Amber Diceless RPG rules but using a new and different background setting. However no prior knowledge of Lords of Gossamer and Shadow is needed to play this game.

Characters are powerful individuals, however they are the minions of a Gossamer Lord (based on 60 points), rather than being Gossamer Lords themselves.

Character creation details will be provide after game assignments are completed.

Players:

  1. Andy R (GM)
  2. Alastair J
  3. Guy A
  4. Kenneth M
  5. Paul B

Game 8/2: It’s Elementary, my dear

GM: Linda C
Cast: 3-5
System: ADRPG+

Description:

Random is King Amber, but all is not well. There has been peace since the Patternfall War, but nothing else seems to be going right. Floods and hurricanes have repeatedly struck Amber and nearby shadows. All the power of Amber and Rebma combined can protect one or another, but then the storms are much more fierce elsewhere. Thousands of years of history have washed into the sea. In Arden, there is both feast and famine; one part seems to grow wild and jungle-like and another is slowly being eaten by creeping desert. Julian’s power is absorbed in merely keeping destructive powers at bay. The crops have failed for several years, leaving Amber and neighbouring shadows to import food and wines at great expense, and ancient noble families on the verge of bankruptcy.

The official announcement is that Random and Llewella will travel to address the issues facing Amber and her allies. King Random has left Prince Martin in charge, naming him Deputy King, by royal decree. The royal family have closed ranks around him, engaging their powers to protect Amber, and her Deputy King.

But King Random has left something for you…

Characters:

ADRP character creation – 100 points (non-standard powers and items need to be discussed with GM)

  2. Edith B
  3. Keith M

Game 8/5: Meeting of Minds

GM: Kevin D
Cast: 4-6
System: LoGaS

Description:

Was the war ever intended?  You’re not entirely sure… but there was good cause.   The war has raged for as long as you can remember, back and forth along the stairs, consuming, subjugating and destroying gossamer worlds in its passing only to return again as the tide turned.

Folly, some might say.  Other may steadfastly hold to their just cause.  Perhaps both held their beliefs for too long.    You… you hold your own council but it is you that has been sent to Heron Rock where the parties involved have agreed to discuss terms to a cessation of the endless turmoil.

It’s time to make your mark.

Game 9/3: Being Bleys

GM: Dave C
Cast: 3-5
System: ADRPG

Description:

It isn’t easy being Amber’s finest blade1, greatest bravo2, raconteur3 and of course patron of the arts4 but by the Unicorn you’re the one to do it.

Which is of course why in Amber’s time of greatest need naturally your father begged you on bended knee5 to save everything. He’d seen the error of his ways after entrusting the Jewel to that lumpen prole6 Corwin. At his best all your brother could possibly have done was make the distance across shadow at worst, well it made you shudder at the thought.

You Hellrode through Shadow following the wave of creative destruction and abject failure formed by your father’s failed endeavour. Finding Corwin slumped on some grassy hillside the Jewel lying to one side. That’s the last thing you recall before awakening to the smell of French coffee and cigarette smoke you think, you’re wrapped in rumpled sheets and a vague memory that brings a smile to your face slips away as the world comes into focus.

  • *1 Some say Benedict others Eric, you know they’re all wrong because unlike other Prince’s of the blood you’re the only one that can speak with an authentic English accent.
  • *2 Well of course you are, could there ever be any doubt?
  • *3 You’ve heard your siblings tell tales and quite frankly they’re about as exciting as a GOP filibuster on corn starch, no soul that’s their problem.
  • *4 Flora likes to think she has an eye for such things, much as a Magpie does for bottle tops and geegaws, real taste you just can’t fake and you have it.
  • *5 Technically he was lying on his back the last of his life ebbing away but heroic narrative and all.
  • *6 Your brother’s time in the revolutionary armies really has left him a dour old republican at heart.

Characters:

150pt Amber DRPG character no artefacts, please build me your version of Prince Bleys. Please note that Prince Bleys may have other gender defining prefixes and qualities so a Princess Bleys or any variant is more than acceptable. Game 9/4: Search for Cymnea (Re-Run)

GM: Keith M

Players:

Game 10/1: The Random Child

GM: Matthew B
Cast: 3-5
System:

Description:

As children of the Elders (except Random, none of Random’s children here) you have been sent as an informal cabal by your parents. It turns out that King Random has a child (not Martin), they all know about them, they have decided that they want to know more, and possibly bring them to Amber. Of course none of them are willing to go, and so they have called upon their loyal children to head off and find the kid, and as they don’t trust their own children, and certainly don’t trust each other, they have sent you all together.

Characters:

This is a late con game, there may be themes of drug use, drunkenness, violence and hippies (I might be lying about one of them). Character generation is 150pts standard ADRPG, no items worth more than 4pts. Basic pattern is required unless your amber parent is female.

Players:

  1. Matthew B (GM)
  2. Esther vR
  3. Keith M
  4. Natalie A
  5. Shadow A
  6. Vivek D

Game 10/2: Reminisce

Cast: Anyone

Description:

After a looong weekend of gaming, many folk enjoy a ‘quiet’ Monday morning where they can relax and reminisce while waiting to a) wake up b) catch a taxi… rather than focus on playing a game.

If you’re one of those folk, please sign up here so I know what you’re intending doing!

Players:

  1. Anyone welcome!

NOTE:

The plan is normally to have breakfast, check out, and then take up residence in the Library to chat, reminisce and say our goodbyes! 🙂

Game 10/3: Pax Britannica (Re-Run)

  2. Andy R
  3. Anna J
  4. Jason P
  5. Mel M
  6. Simone PM

Game 10/4: Darkest Hour (Re-Run)

GM: Anna J

Players:

  1. Anna J (GM)
  2. Edith B
  3. Kevin D
  4. George K
  5. Guy A

Game 11/1: Dark Dealings in Carnival Row

GM: Mel M
Cast: 4-6
System: Set in the Carnival Row Universe, this game will be Bespoke Diceless. You should download information about the Carnival Row setting here: https://nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Carnival-Row-RPG.pdf, and/or watch the TV series on Amazon Prime.NB This is for background ONLY – I will supply simplified character creation rules. We will probably be using Zoom to play this.

Description:

Carnival Row offers a dark, fantastic world that calls back to the styles and social graces of Edwardian London, in a society still shakily recovering from a conflict that resembles European colonial wars — but with industrialized destruction that resembles World War I.
A recent murder was committed in Carnival Row and (rather surprisingly) solved. But things have not settled down. A long-established group, Citizens of The Burgue for the Protection of Virtue, have suddenly become a great deal more active – and the chief target of their ire seems to be the Tetterby Hotal – run by the faerie Madame Moira, who has recently turned the place into an upmarket place for salacious entertainment of many kinds. And their campaigning seems to be attracting attention in some high – and low – places. Things come to a head when another murder is committed …

Characters:

You are someone caught up in the murder investigation. You can be police, member of the Citizens of The Burgue for the Protection of Virtue, witness or suspect (and if you are a Faerish witness, you are also likely to be a suspect). You can be human (not necessarily from The Burgue) or Faerish. Come up with a proposal, and I’ll help you shape it. Returning and new players welcome.

Players:

  1. Mel B (GM)
  2. Andy R
  3. Anna J
  4. Esther vR
  5. George K
  6. Tym N
  7. Vivek D
